1LT OER Writing Guide

The 1LT OER evaluates experienced platoon leaders and executive officers transitioning to company-level responsibility. Evaluators expect demonstrated leadership competence, broader organizational contributions, and readiness for company command.

Typical duties:

Executive officer managing company logistics, maintenance, and daily operations

Experienced platoon leader during deployment or major training cycles

Coordinates company-level resource management and property accountability

Plans and synchronizes operations at the company level

Develops junior officers and works closely with the First Sergeant on company matters

Represents the company at battalion-level planning and synchronization meetings

Example bullets:

o managed company logistics and maintenance as executive officer, sustaining a 97% equipment readiness rate over two quarters

o led an experienced platoon through a 21-day combat training center rotation, achieving a 92% lane go rate

o coordinated company-level property accountability across three platoons, closing all shortage annexes before change of command

o synchronized a battalion-directed range consolidation, saving the company two training days

o mentored two newly assigned second lieutenants on platoon administration and property accountability

o worked closely with the first sergeant to resolve a recurring barracks maintenance issue affecting 40 Soldiers

o completed the Captain’s Career Course application packet and scored above the cutoff for early command consideration
